My Review of “The BlackBerry Diaries” by Kathy Buckworth
When my friend, The Party Planning Professional handed me this book, The Black Berry Diaries by Kathy Buckworth, I had been an avid Blackberryist for about three weeks already. I know this was going to be a great book for me at the preface, “As a toughly modern mother, what I love most about my Black Berry smart phone is that it allows me to maintain the façade of dedicated writer, knowledgeable public speaker, and little known but professionally made-up television personality while simultaneously living the perilous life of the harried, time starved, harassed, and generally cranky mom.” Really??? Me too! Well, minus the television personality thing.
The book is a series of diary entries that let you glimpse into the life of a busy, mommy of 4, aided and distracted by her adopted fifth child “Seamus” (her Black Berry Smart Phone or BBSP). I found my self reading page after page saying, “Oh my gosh, that’s happened to me,” and “I’ve done that!” Not to mention the laughter that ensued from her witty view of motherhood. I Love this book! She has humorous view points for all things matriarchal i.e. loosing your kiddo in the market, buying lice shampoo ( yes I said lice), resisting your inner hockey mom, and a mothers day every mom has experienced. Not to mention her take on issues such as blarching, entoddlerment, luddites, and berry envy. (Confused? Get the book!) Her obvious love affair with “Seamus” (remember its her BBSP, keep up) is irrevocable! She summed it up best when she wrote, “… my own BB experienced have allowed me to fall deeply, madly, and passionately in love with this technology, which allows me to keep one foot firmly in the land of “those who have a life/friends/worldly interests” while dealing simultaneously with the minutia of domestic life with children.” And I completely concur!
My love for my own BBSP (Pinkie Mc Pinkerton, as it’s lovingly referred) is irrevocable. I am now an underpaid (by underpaid I mean not paid a lick) walking advertisement for R.I.M (makers of the BBSP). Get one, get one, and you’ll see how much better life can be! With my pinkie I am now connected to friends, family, and (most important to my children’s eating and spending habits) WORK! I can now happily go through my emails as they arrive to pinkie, say while in line at the market, in the car waiting for my cherubs to be let out of their learning institutions, and when I see another mother I don’t want to talk to! This not only saves time, but it helps eliminate those pesky keyboard to cheek impressions too much late night emailing can cause…..ZZZZ!
I would fill you in on all that the wonderful world of BBSP ownership has to offer the mommies of today, but I’ll leave that up to Kathy. Get the Book!!
