Jeffrey Zaslow’s book The Magic Room
Ya know that couple. You see them at the mall or a restaurant; they look so in love. They laugh, and talk, and just seem so happy. I always would see them, and think; one day I hope that’s me. I want to be that woman. Well, I’m not sure how it happened; but I am that woman! This occurred to me while I was reading The Magic Room.
I’m not married. In fact, I’m divorced. Right now I’m happily cohabitating with the other half of that very happy couple you see at the mall. As I started to read The Magic Room, I was bored. I was never THAT girl. I never dreamed of my wedding day, or the wedding dress. I’m a huge pintrest fan, and I DO NOT have a wedding album. I guess, for me, it was something non-essential. I have 5 sisters, three of whom are married. That’s three weddings. Three weddings I had an involvement in of some sort. I figured it really all just adds up to stress! Lots of money saved and saved. For what? One night? One night: of feeding half our relatives that we could care less about; and a slew of our not so close friends. So when my turn came, I eloped.
Reality TV has found its place in my heart with shows like “Say Yes to the Dress”. Here is where I started to have my graving to be a bride. Reading Jeffrey Zaslow’s The Magic Room, reinforced that want. This second time around, I will have my moment in The Magic Room! I will be that bride standing on the pedestal, in the most important dress of my life!
Jeffrey Zaslow’s book The Magic Room takes you on an emotional journey through the lives of woman ready to take the plunge. Every woman that stands on that pedestal has a story, a good cry (usually), and hopes for a happy marriage.
The owners of the small bridal shop, Beckers, have their own story. Their story started in 1934, and continues today. Zaslow intertwines these emotional stories and gives you insight into mother daughter dynamics, and how families have evolved.
I read this book, Jeffrey Zaslow’s The Magic Room for the BlogHer Book Club and you can read other reviews and discussions at BlogHer. I am paid for my participation in the BlogHer Book Club, but I choose which books to read and my reviews are strictly my own opinions.
