Growing up in Southern California we didn’t have the joy of seasons but when the Holiday’s arrived we still enjoyed many special traditions. When my husband and I were married we began new traditions melding some of his family traditions and some of my traditions.
As our son grows older we are enjoying sharing our traditions together. I recently over heard a conversation where a woman was saying she was not able to continue her mother’s traditional Swedish baking and it made me sad to imagine part of someones traditions being gone, but then she went on to say she changed the tradition and all though she may not bake a huge wreath of sweet bread she does bake cinnamon rolls. It just stuck in my mind and made me think about our traditions.
Here are a few of our family traditions;
1.Candy Advent Calendar
2.No Christmas Presents under the tree until Christmas Eve
3.Read a Christmas Themed Story Every Night in December
4. On Christmas Eve Read Nativity Under the Christmas Tree
5.Make a Card for our Pastor
6.Baby Jesus only enters the Nativity on Christmas Eve
This is the first time I have started a Craft to count down the days to Christmas and we are filling in Santa’s beard with cotton balls. I think I am more excited about the beard then Little Man.
What are some of your family traditions? What traditions do you hope your children continue as they grow up?
